Title: Question on game development
Post by: EgalitarianAquagirl on July 02, 2018, 10:27:23 AM
Hey, so I think I've never used these forums before, or if I did I can't remember when. I was wondering what happened to the game's development? I can't see any dev updates or any word on development, but I can see that the forums are still somewhat active. Was the game cancelled or something?

The game is still being developed. The PoTD (Pic of The Day) has been halted as well as the Devblog's, for the up and comming Sneek Peek Weekend. There will be news very soon, so hold tight!  :)

The devs are just developing in the dark as of this moment.  In fact,  since they havent been worrying about devblogs or PotD, development has been happening much faster.  We should be getting a formal announcement later this week explaining this in better detail. So just keep checking the site

How do you know development has been much faster ever since they've been in the dark? You know this game called no mans sky made by Sean Murray? Yeah, he made the game lied to every bodies faces and did false advertisement on the game. And when they came to interview/arrest him everybody was gone. They had abandoned the entire office, it was vacant and there were no traces found after inspecting the building. But eventually he came back and updated the game because he realized he lost sales to fortnite. I'm not saying that there is a possibility that this is what they've done. But it's something that could happen and something that I think all of us should keep in mind. Lets not get too hype.

They would have no reason to do what Sean Murray did in the slightest. Murray kept overpromising and false advertising because he wanted to get more money from sales. The devs here have no reason to lie as there is no profit to be made.

This is gonna be an unpopular opinion but I feel like the Legacy devs overhyped and oversold Legacy. I think they might have been so caught up the the excitement of remaking FusionFall that their priorities got rather mixed up. I won't hold this against them, it is quite exciting to be making a new game, but hopefully they don't do that again.

It's a rookie mistake. Many AAA devs have done it in the past and it will happen to the devs with the noblest intentions. A dev can get overexcited about their work and it leads to overselling it. Then they hit a snag and everything goes wrong.

In this case, they've oversold it when it wasn't time to be sold yet, in a manner of speaking.

I do have to somewhat agree that the developers maybe should have waited a while to reveal the project and such until they had made a large chunk of progress, but then again we all wouldn't be here having this discussion.

Announcing Legacy so early on was a bit of a double edged sword, and could I go back, we definitely would not have gone the route we did initially. That said, we're still around, developing intentionally in the dark. In that way, we can leave focus moreso on Retro, without having to worry about public development updates, which actually did wind up pushing more important and crucial development aside.

From my quote I state "I'm not saying that there is a possibility that this is what they've done. But it's something that could happen". So yeah I agree they would have no reason to do what Sean Murray did and I do not know what you are trying to imply my quoting my statement.

As long as work gets done, I'm okay with that.
