A guide to Image Posting in Photographers Place
« on: August 03, 2017, 02:43:21 AM »
Welcome to the Photographers Place! This is the spot for posting all of your screenshots in-game, and showing them off to your fellow forum members. To help show off your cool snapshots, this guide will cover some quick tips to help make your thread sleek and trim!

1. Getting your picture
There are many ways to get your screenshot, and here are two of the most common methods to obtain a high quality picture.

The Print Screen Key is available on almost all computers and laptops, it captures your entire screen in that instant, and puts the image matching the size of your resolution onto your computers clipboard, allowing it to be manipulated elsewhere. This is a good method for capturing action shots, due to it's instantaneous timing.

The second methods are Screen Capturing Services will create images of roughly the same quality of the first method, however they may include watermarks and/or extra features such as the ability to select a specific area of your screen. The end product may save to folders, open in online browsers, or copy to the clipboard much like the first method.

A third method of capturing a screenshot is the Snipping Tool. Found by pressing the Windows key and typing it in the search bar, this tool allows you to select an area of you screen, and opens it in a new window. In the window, you can copy it or save it, then from here you can go onto the next step, or even skip to the third step.

2. Touching up the image
Now, that we have our screenshot, we may need to crop it! This helps bring the viewers attention to what we are trying to show off, like in this screenshot of Brass QuickGuts:

However, There is a bit too much background here. We want to show off Brass QuickGuts cool clothes and hair a bit more, so let's open up Paint or any other image editing software, and crop out what we don't need. For simple screenshot trimming in Paint, all you will need is two tools

The select tool is used for selecting what area of the picture we want to focus on by clicking and dragging, so in this case we will select where Brass QuickGuts is standing.

Now that the area is selected all we have to do is click Crop, this will remove everything outside of the selected area, leaving only the selected area behind. Now we can save the picture, and we're almost ready to show off Brass QuickGuts to the forums!

3. Hosting your image
Now that your image is looking good, you need to do one last step before you post it to the forums. Since other people can't directly view your computer's files, you are going to need to upload the picture to an image hosting site to get a proper URL for your screenshot. (sites like Imgur, Photobucket, Tinypic)

The end goal is to get a link to your image that ends in ".png" or any other image file name because it is key for embeding the link later on to properly display screenshots, and now that we have the link we are ready to start...

4. Posting to the forums
Now that we have our link we should embed it to hide the image link, while still showing off the screenshot. To do this all we have to do is click this button when making our post :

Clicking this will produce a chunk of code that reads "[іmg][/іmg]", here is where we want to put our image link, in between the two brackets right next to one another, so it looks like this.

Which if done correctly will produce the following :

5. Extra Credit (Height and Width)
Some images are a bit too large to view in the browser, requiring users to scroll through it, however there is a quick and easy fix for this.. Height and Width! By adding width and height parameters, we can adjust the size of appearance of the image, turning this...
[іmg width=300 height=495][/іmg]

Into this...
[іmg width=225 height=355][/іmg]

And with that Brass QuickGuts has made his debut on the forums! And he is ready to share snapshots of his adventures all throughout FusionFall Retro! 8)

You can use snipping tool instead of cropping with paint net.
